In the UK, the national government set a 3.25 percent biofuel mandate for 2009-10, surprising those who had initially expected a 3 percent target. The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation for 2009-10 originally was recommended at a 5 percent level for the period, but was scaled back following a government review in which biofuels were described as unsustainable fuels. The government also indicated it would expand the definition of renewable fuels to include biobutanol and renewable diesel. The Government said that the change reflected a correction of calculation errors in the original Gallagher Report targets that pushed back the 5 percent goal to 2013-14.
