In Washington, Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced $25 million in grants for R&D on fuels made from non-food energy crops. The grants will be made over four years in a joint program with the USDA that will focus on biomass feedstock development; cellulosic biofuels; and biofuels development analysis. The grants are a part of the Biomass Research and Development Initiative (BRDI), between DOE and the USDA, and the grants are expected to be capped at $5 million. Pre-applications are due March 6th.
