In California, the state Energy Commission awarded SFGreasecylce $1 million towards the construction of a new biodiesel plant that will convert trap grease to fuel. The city will produce certified biodiesel for fleet use, low-grade boiler fuel for sewage treatment machinery, and methane for treatment plant heat and power. The EPA also added a $200,000 grant in support of the project, while the National Biodiesel Board gave San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsome a 2009 “Eye on Biodiesel Award” as a champion of biodiesel fuel.
