In California, the Daily Cal released a review of research progress from the $500 million UC Berkeley research deal with BP. The director of the Energy Biosciences Center, DR. Chris Somerville, said that 51 different projects were currently funded in the first year of the deal, representing $20 million in research funding.
The Institute, comprising 120 faculty and 170 students have investigated fungi that break down cell walls as well as reviews and models of biofuel economics. The report also details unhappiness on the Berkeley campus over the corporate control over academic freedom.
