Five environmental groups band to announce biofuels policy; aims to counter potential increase of corn ethanol blend to E15
In Washington, the Clean Air Task Force, Environmental Working Group, Friends of the Earth, the Network for New Energy Choices and New York Public Interest Research Group announced that they will release a common biofuels platform document Wednesday.
They groiups aim to combat global warming and counter the $3.04 billion in federal support in 2008 for corn ethanol, more than the support for wind, solar, and geothermal energy combined. The groups said that the money :lavished on corn ethanol” provides little to no return in energy security, impact on climate change, or the cost of driving. The group announcement was prompted by rumors of USDA and EPA discussions on raising the mandated blend level of ethanol to as much as E15.
