“FUEL, the Film” expands distribution, as 18-year old “engineering hippie” readies for 20-city tour in an SVO-powered “green machine”.
In California, “FUEL: The Film”, the award-winning documentary on biodiesel and alternative fuels by Josh Tickell, has expanded its distribution to Washington state, and multiple theaters in California, and will open in Hawaii and New York in the next month.
Tickell, who rose to fame driving a wildly painted Veggie Van around the US in the 1990s, has an emulator in Colin Coon, an 18-year old self-described “engineering hippie” who will commence a 20 US town national tour in a 1980 Mercedes station wagon he has adapted to run on vegetable oil. Coon, a high school senior, told MSNBC “I would say I’m not as passionate about making the Earth a greener place as much as I’m passionate about finding new opportunities to produce energy. The thing that fascinates me is that we have all these opportunities for natural energy and we’re still using fossil fuels.” The 20-city tour, sponsored by numerous companies, is the outcome of his high school senior project.
