Today in Biofuels Opinion: “BIO estimates that…advanced biofuels could result in more than 800,000 jobs by 2022.”
From Reuters: “A report released Wednesday by Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) estimates that the full economic impact from advanced biofuels — renewable fuels derived from sources other than corn starch — could result in more than 800,000 jobs by 2022. Brent Erickson, executive vice president in BIO’s, said that “More than 20 advanced biofuels projects are ready to go, but developers are having some difficulty finding financing.”
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey: “I’ve talked to some folks that have seen parts of [the EPA report on indirect land-use change emissions] and have a feeling that ‘indirect’ is included in a way that completely changes ethanol from being a positive to a negative, or neutral at best. The idea of indirect land use and using that can affect lots of things down the road. It certainly can affect cellulose ethanol down the road. It certainly could affect crop production and livestock production as folks look to reduce the amount of carbon that comes from agriculture in general. It certainly creates a situation where folks decide to use less renewable fuels for all the wrong reasons because the numbers aren’t exactly accurate and they are being compared to numbers that aren’t accurate as well, on the gasoline side.”
