Ethanol, biodiesel shutdowns, layoffs announced in Idaho, California, Ohio, New York and Illinois

Production suspensions and/or layoffs were reported by Pacific Ethanol in California, Coshocton Ethanol in Ohio, Northeast Biofuels in New York, and Nova Biosource Fuels in Illinois.

Pacific Ethanol said it would shut down production at 60 Mgy corn ethanol facilities in Burley, Idaho and Stockton, California, citing economic conditions.  Coshocton Ethanol is reported to have laid off 30 workers on Friday.  Northeast Biofuels laid off 25 workers at its $200 million ethanol plant, while Nova Biosource Fuels said that it had commenced layoffs and suspended production at its Seneca, Illinois plant.
