Indian biodiesel producers look to domestic markets, EU tariffs against US to stimulate declining biodiesel export market

In India, biodiesel producers have commenced the process of marketing biodiesel for local usage, after local producers such as Natural BioEnergy reduced production to 50 percent of capacity after demand cutback from the EU.

The managing director of Universal Biofuels, a 150,000 per tonne biodiesel facility, that “Biodiesel prices revolve around fossil diesel. So if crude goes above $60 a barrel tomorrow, we’ll again have a market.” Indian producers also said that if the EU levies tariffs on US producers, it will improve the market for exports, which have been crushed by falling diesel prices and questions in Europe about the sustainability and effectiveness of biodiesel as a greenhouse gas solution.
