Environmental Power signs 10-year deal with Xcel Energy for renewable natural gas, with 14 MW dairy-based project imminent in Colorado
In Colorado, Environmental Power’s subsidiary, Microgy and Xcel Energy announced a long-term renewable natural gas supply agreement, subject to approval by the Colorado PUC. The project will be sited at an undisclosed 10,000 cow diary farm in Colorado that is still going through permitting for the production of RNG. This initial project, scheduled to commence construction in the first half of 2010, will produce a projected 915,000 MMBtu per year of RNG per year, or 14MW, enough to power 17,000 homes in Colorado. The 10-year deal with Xcel Energy is renewable for an additional ten years, and involves fixed prices for power at an undisclosed premium to the cost of non-renewable power.
