Washington, Oregon and California governors mull turning I-5 into “green freeway” with ethanol, biodiesel, hydrogen, CNG and battery swaps at rest stops
The governors of Washington state, Oregon and California are looking at a plan to create a string of alternative fuel stations along the I-5 corridor to create what is being called a “green freeway“. The alternative fuel stations and battery swap-outs would be allowed to operate at state-owned rest stops on Interstate 5, which would be the first businesses allowed to operate at these locations.
The plan was discussed in Washington last month by the three governors, and said it would make the states eligible for more of the $15 billion in stimulus money aimed at promoting alternative fuel availability. The plan as discussed would provide access to biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen, compressed natural gas and battery swaps for electric cars.
