Jamaica assembles coalition of ministries and NGOs for biodiesel feedstock development

aflac

Little-known UNECLAC has joined a consortium of agencies and ministries to promote Jamaican biofuel feedstocks; could UNECLAC use branding help from the now-unemployed AFLAC duck?

In Jamaica, the Ministries of Energy and Agriculture have partnered with a blue-ribbon collection of NGOs, including Organization of American States (OAS), World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the enigmatically named UNECLAC (I hear the Aflac duck is available for brand development), to encourage the development of local biodiesel feedstocks made from castor beans and jatropha.

The broad nature of the coalition is remarkable, reminding us that biofuels remain popular as a strategy for economic development and energy security in non-OECD nations.

Also, the focus on castor beans indicates that this is not your garden variety, same-as-it-ever-was coalition.
