Biofuels Cities 1000 member coalition: sustainable biofuels policies working in Stockholm, Rotterdam, Goteburg
At World Biofuels Markets, Peter Defraneschi of Biofuels Cities said that the transport sector in Europe represents 1/3 of all carbon emissions in Europe, but that public opinion remain divided over the use of biofuels despite the EU’s 2020 10 percent biofuels mandate.
The 1000-member coalition of local governments said that sustainability is difficult to verify in biofuels, but said that sustainable biofuels principles are working in Stockholm, Goteburg and Rotterdam, while a made-locally approach to ensure sustainability was working in Graz, Lille, Valencia as well as Stockholm.
