In Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced that it will increase ethanol imports from Thailand under the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement, and in support of Japan’s introduction of E3 ethanol amid total ethanol usage of 222 Mgy.
According to National Multi Media, Thailand’s output is now 181 Mgy and will increase to 397 Mgy with the opening of nine new ethanol plants. Domestic consumption is 125 Mgy in Thailand. Thailand currently provides 12 percent of Japan’s ethanol, trailing Brazil at more than 50 percent and Pakistan at 20 percent. Japan took 60 percent of Thailand’s exported ethanol last year.
