Rolls-Royce, British Airways halt biofuel testing for lack of alternative fuels that meet volume, performance, sustainability criteria

In the UK, a biofuels testing program by Rolls-Royce and British Airways has been suspended due to the lack of 15,000 gallons of biofuels needed for advanced, intensive ground testing.

Rolls Royce said that it received only three responses to a worldwide tender issued last July for alternative fuels for its testing program, even though it intended to test up to four alternative fuels. The tender called for lab-scale samples with the successful company delivering 15,800 gallons for ground testing that was scheduled to be completed this month.

The fuel had been required to meet performance and sustainability criteria as well as producing the required volumes.
