In Ghana, Hazel Mercantil has invested $45 million in a jatropha biofuel venture, and local officials said that another unnamed company has made an investment pledge of $40 million conditional on receiving a grant of 109,000 acres of land. The Ghana Investments Promotion Council said that they had approved a recent Israeli request for 17,000 acres and did not see a problem in complying with the new investment request.
The Ghana officials confirmed that groups from China, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel, Belgium, Italy and India have commenced pilot alternative energy projects in the country.
