In Canada, the Global Renewable Fuels Alliance (GRFA) will host a conference call this morning at 10:30am Eastern time to present a new report on the carbon profile of ethanol. The report, “An Examination of the Potential for Improving Carbon/Energy Balance of Bioethanol,” concludes that greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions from ethanol compared to gasoline have improved from 26% in 1995 to 39% today, and predicts improvements to 55% by 2015. In addition, the report predicts an ever-improving energy balance for ethanol as farming and ethanol production technologies advance. The report is part of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Bioenergy Task 39.
