Zimbabwe aims to reduce energy imports with 120,000 hectare jatropha project

From Zimbabwe, Abisai Mushaka provided an overview of jatropha cultivation from a project by the National Oil Company of Zimbabwe (NOCZIM), founded in March 2007. The project was developed by the Zimbabwe government to promote energy independence.

The presentation at 4th African Biofuels, which can be downloaded here, details the work of 11 biofuels program managers and provincial offers, plus students , who have aimed to produce 25 Mgy of jatropha biodiesel from 120,000 hectares of jatropha. The project developed 40 million seedlings in 2008 from 90 nurseries at a cost of $0.0015 per seedling.
