UCLA wins $2.1 million in grants for hydrogen refueling and production

In California, a team from the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science won two grants totaling $2.1 million from the California Air Resources Board and the state’s Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee towards construction of a 53 TRY (tons per year) hydrogen production and refueling station.

The station will be run by the UCLA Engineering’s Hydrogen Engineering Research Consortium and will be open to the public. The station will feature a natural gas reforming technology that will produce hydrogen and CO2 from natural gas and water, through endothermic transformation.

The hydrogen will be produced onsite at the fueling facility, which will have natural gas and water pipelines. California currently has 27 hydrogen fueling stations in the state. federal and private agencies.
