No cell eth venture has come close to sugarcane, corn ethanol production efficiencies depite long, extensive funding, report says

In Minnesota, TwinCities.com is reporting on six pilot projects for cellulosic ethanol that have received $240 million in Department of Energy grant support. The report concluded that the troubles of cellulosic ethanol are less based in  the science of conversion, and more in the logistic and economics of cellulosic conversion.

The report said that, despite years of research, no cellulosic ethanol venture has yet come close to matching the economic efficiency of sugarcane or corn ethanol.
