In California, an analysis of power consumption during the global Earth hour showed virtually no discernible difference in usage.
Earth Hour is a heavily promoted consumer event whereby individuals and cities turn off their lights for one hour to mark support for reduced energy consumption and promotion of a healthier planet.
Researchers determined their results from graphs on power consumption supplied by the California Independent System Operator.

Above: Power consumption the day after Earth Hour. At left, the Earth Hour daily usage chart from CAISO. Note the absence of a change in consumption.
