Scientists report that DDGs can boost piglet immunities

Scientists at the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service report that feeding dried distiller’s grains (DDGs) to piglets can increase immunities by improving cytokine levels in pig intestines, an essential for immune system function. The ethanol industry produces of to 14 million tonnes of DDGs per year as an ethanol process by-product, and they have been fed to older pigs for some time, which had researchers to note that pigs fed DDGs had reduced levels of intestinal inflammation.
