In the UK, researchers affiliated with Friends of the Earth released a report that the government’s biofuels program will increase CO2 emissions by 1.3 million tonnes since last April the equivalent of 500,000 cars. The researchers based their calculations on indirect land use change, saying that UKJ biofuels have doubled emissions compared to gasoline by encouraging forest destruction. The UK’s Renewable Fuel Transport Obligation was originally set at 2.5 percent biofuel content, and increases this week to 3.3 percent.
