USDA research teams concludes that glycerine is a economically, nutritionally viable supplement to poultry diets; new market for biodiesel by-product foreseen
In Mississippi, a team at the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service said that tests on young chickens showed that glycerine could be an economically and environmentally sound additive to poultry diets. The team, working with researchers from Iowa State University said that glycerine is a useful dietary supplement for poultry in terms of nutrition, and offered a low-cost feed substitute for farmers. Glycerine is a by-product of the biodiesel production process and substitutes for other crops such as corn and soybean meal. The research was published in the April 2009 issue of Agricultural Research magazine.
