Pangea says EU will need up to 2 Bgy of imported ethanol by 2020; Africa a key potential source

In South Africa, Massimo Marletto, consultant for African biofuels trade association PANGEA, said that with Europe’s current and planned ethanol capacity, the EU would face a deficit of up to 2 billion gallons of ethanol per year by 2020. Marletto said that “a big part of this ethanol could come from Africa,” adding that it was improbable that Europe would construct 40-60 new 30 Mgy ethanol refineries to satisfy demand through local production.
