Draper Fisher Jurvetson lead $5 million Series A financing round in Glycos Biotechnologies; converting low-value, low-purity carbon sources drop in renewable chemicals
In Texas, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and DFJ Mercury announced that they have led and close a $5.0 million series A investment round in Glycos Biotechnologies. Glycos is using microbes and fermentation technologies as an alternative to petrochemical-based manufacturing, based on technology licensed from Rice University.
The technology is focused on converting low-value, low-purity carbon sources into high quality, non-petroleum sourced chemicals that are molecularly identical to current petrochemical-based chemicals, and upgrades glycerin-rich co-products to a variety of chemical intermediates. The proceeds from the Series A round will be used to hire key technical talent and to commercialize GlycosBio technology to manufacturing scale.
