Praj Industries reaches 75 percent market share in Indian ethanol, 50 percent in SE Asia
In India, a report on Praj Industries gave the company strong marks for its growing dominant position in the ethanol trade, despite disappointing quarterly and annual results. The report said that Praj now exports 55 percent of its ethanol production and has achieved a 50-55 percent market share in Southeast Asia and a 75 percent market share in India. The company increased revenues 26 percent last year, while net earning contracted by 20 percent on a three point fall in operating margins.

Praj has seen a lot of market ups and downs and has always used the downtimes to develop new technologies which furthered the company’s continued growth. It has never had as much breakthrough IPR as it does at present, so I expect to see rapid innovation and expansion once global economic conditions stabilize.
Unlike US ethanol producers, Praj is also insulated to some extent by its distillery and brewery businesses. Lately it has developed a technology for using distillery waste particulates as feedstock and is now testing the technology with some of its distillery clients.
