In Massachusetts, Soyatech Biofuels Monitor has projected that the US-based ethanol companies will operate at 67% of nameplate capacity through 2010, based on USDA data showing that the projected corn plantings will realize a 12.15 billion bushel corn crop from 85 million acres with 3.4 billion bushels available for ethanol production.
HighQuest Partners, which produces Soyatech Biofuels Monitor, said that it used a projected yield of 157.3 bushels per acre, in line with a 10-year trend towards higher yields. HighQuest projected a yield of 2.82 gallons of ethanol per bushel of corn. HighQuest said that ethanol production capacity utilization was 78 percent in the first quarter of 2009.
