In California, Tim Zenk of Sapphire Energy said that the company is on a drive to add language to make sure that algae fuels are covered by the Renewable Fuel Standard. He said that the move is receiving support from the airlines and oil majors who have noted that advanced biofuels used in the recent Continental Airlines flight test showed not only the expected gains in emission performance, but a four percent gain in fuel economy. Sapphire is also confirming its previous guidance that it has ready technology and will be in a position to deploy at commercial scale in three years.
