In South Dakota, POET received safety recognition from BNSF Railway Company as a shipper who transported a minimum of 500 loaded tank cars of hazardous materials during the previous year with zero non-accident releases (releases that are not caused by a derailment or collision) during the entire transportation cycle. The award recognized South Dakota POET plants in Chancellor, Mitchell, Big Stone City, Groton, Scotland and Hudson as well as facilities in Coon Rapids and Corning, both in Iowa. The company received a similar award from Union Pacific for zero non-accident releases at four plants.
