Finnair and Qatar Airways announced their new membership in the Aviation Global Deal Group, which has already attracted Air France, KLM, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Virgin Atlantic, British Airport Authority and The Climate Group. The group aims to influence policy on aviation emissions, and said that any emissions policy had to be global, noting that the European Emissions Trading Scheme which takes effect in 2012 affects only flights to Europe. Finnair noted that regional emissions deals only encouraged airlines to route their flights around the affected regions.
