In India, Orissa state’s Science and Technology Department has developed a plan for a 3700 acre jatropha project and will spend $1 million in support of it, while seeking project financing. The government is in the process of determining whether it can direct the conversion of private land for jatropha, after the conversion of private land last year in support of production of the Tata Nano car led to riots.
