In Florida, FL BioFuels announced that they expect to have a site location within two weeks for their 3 Mgy waste vegetable oil biodiesel plant in Lee County. The county has pledged $500,000 to the project as well as a 500,000 off-take contact. The owners said that the $500,000 grant will offset the differential between the $2.60 price they expect to produce biodiesel at, and the $1.60 target price that the county is seeking for its fuel purchase (matching its current diesel price).
According to Domestic Fuel, the county is currently purchasing biodiesel from Malaysia, prompting concerns about deforestation caused by increased palm production.
