EU states expected to approve 5-year extension of anti-dumping biodiesel tariff; cover for rapeseed protectionism?

EU sources are reporting in Alibaba that most EU states are supporting a five-year extension of the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tariffs on biodiesel imposed recently on the United States.

Biofuels Digest sources report that the EU Commission called in European Biodiesel Board head Rafello Garafallo to work on “the series of approved steps” regarding the long-term imposition of import duties and sustainability criteria on soy biodiesel.

According to sources, the proposed duties are “protectionism for the farmers in the veil of sustainability,” on behalf of the rapeseed growers and crushers that “dominate the EBB”.
