Wales funds research on coverting rye gress to ethanol

In Wales, UK government, Welsh Assembly Government and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council have funded a $1.62 million project at Aberystwyth University to develop biofuel from grass, especially rye grass that is prevalent in the UK for grazing.

The effort focuses on production of ethanol to replace sugarcane ethanol imported from Brazil. More than 60 percent of the available land, or 2.5 million acres, of Wales consists of permanent grassland, according to Wales Online.
