In Washington, a Zogby/O’Leary Report poll found that more Americans believe that ethanol raises food prices than helps with the reduction of emissions, by more than a 2 to 2 margin.
The poll asked voters “Opponents of producing ethanol claim the use of ethanol takes crops out of production that would otherwise be used for food, thereby raising food prices. Supporters of ethanol production claim ethanol can help reduce automobile emissions and provide cleaner air. Which side are you more likely to support?
53.2 percent of voters said ethanol raises food prices–53.2% while 21.1 percent said it helps reduce emissions. The remainder said neither or were not sure. Obama voters were more closely divided on the question.
