In Malaysia, International Air Transport Association CEO Giovanni Bisignani announced a goal of 2020 as the date by which the industry must achieve a carbon-neutral growth rate, where future expansion in fleet or schedule will not increase the airline’s overall carbon footprint. The goal was announced at the annual general meeting of IATA in Kuala Lumpur.
The airlines set three specific stages: a 1.5 percent annual improvement in fuel efficiency until 2020, carbon-neutral growth after 2020, and a 50 percent emissions reduction by 2050 compared to 2025. Full details in a detailed report at greenaironline. com.
