Petrovietnam signs construction contract for 26 Mgy sugarcane, cassava ethanol plant
In Vietnam, Petrovietnam signed a $60 million contract for a engineering, procurement and construction with the Petrolchemical and Bio Fuel Joint Stock Company, for a 26 Mgy sugarcane and cassava ethanol plant. The plant will be located in Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province.
The total project is expected to cost $80 million and will be complete by the end of 2010.
In March, PetroVietnam announced that it would construct three new 22 Mgy ethanol facilities in the southern province of Binh Phuoc, the northern province of Phu Tho, and in the central province of Quang Ngai.
The company said that it will jointly develop the projects with (Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited and Petro Vietnam Tourism and Service Company.
The Phu Tho project is expected to open in 2010, while the Binh Phuoc and Quang Ngai projects is scheduled for later development and financing. The ethanol will be used to provide an E5 ethanol, which is currently being tested in Ho Chi Minh City. after the completion of the Phu Tho project.
