Vale announces $305 million palm oil biodiesel project in Brazil

In Brazil, Vale announced a $305 million palm oil biodiesel project that will utilize feedstock produced by a consortium formed between Vale and Biopalma da Amazônia.

The project, which will be completed in 2014, will produce 500,000 tons of palm oil and 48 Mgy of palm oil biodiesel. The biodiesel will be used in a B20 concentration to supply locomotives in the Carajas railroad and mining operations. Vale will hold a 41 percent stake in the palm oil consortium.
