In New Mexico, the Center of Excellence for Hazardous Materials Management has upgraded its Algae Biofuels Project from pilot scale to the commercial demonstration level. The project is located at the New Mexico State University Agriculture Science Center and will be in full operation in September. Center officials said that their guidance on yield is at the 5,000 gallon per acre level at this time – equivalent to replacing New Mexicon’s diesel demand with a 10,000 acre footprint.
The project is the result of a partnership between CEHMM and the U.S. Department of Energy, New Mexico State University, the State of New Mexico’s Energy Innovation Fund and the city of Carlsbad.
