Economics of Indian biofuels unveiled
In India, the Gerson Lehrman site at glgroup.com is carrying an extensive analysis of India’s sugarcane options and resources for ethanol, with special emphasis on the E10 ethanol targets. Digest readers will remember recent reports of a serious shortfall in Indian sugarcane productivity this year, with indications that yields may be as much as 30 percent off the 2007 harvests in 2009.
“A 6 billion liters ethanol production could save an estimated around US$1 billion in foreign exchange in diesel / petrol equivalent. This in turn would provide an additional income per year to the tune of Rs 13000 Crores at an average price of Rs. 1300 per tone,” the article highlights, along with policy matters and extensive background on fuel consumption.”
