Prison power: Sierra Club aims to increase biomass, reduce coal in Wisconsin prisons

In Wisconsin, the Sierra Club is pursuing an agreement with the Wisconsin prison system to reduce emissions by introducing more biomass to partially replace coal-fired power. A plan for the system noted that the state spends $2.2 million on energy for the Waupun prison facility, and could reduce carbon emissions by up to 20 percent with the introduction of more biomass into the mix.
