QD Sciences says toxins removable from coal flue gas at $5 per ton, with 98 percent efficiency

In North Carolina, QD Sciences announced that it has developed a process to remove toxins from coal-based flue gas with 98 percent efficiency.

The company said that it can remove COx, SOx, NOx,  nitrous oxide (N20), haloflurocarbons, CH4, HO (hydroxide), H2S, Aldehit (H-CHO), Mercury (Hg), Hydrogen Florid (HF), Trifluoromethane (HFC-23), phosphor (P), lead, SnO2 micro crystals, (Cl2), Vinyl Chloride (C2H3Cl) volatile organic compounds (VOC), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), particulate matter, and odor, at a cost of $5 per ton.

QDS said that its process can be utilized at major CO2 emitting plants including power, industrial chemical, oil refineries, aluminum or copper smelters, cement or steel factories, or plastic and rubber producers.

    1. Five bucks a ton is pretty impressive but you don’t get a biofuel coproduct. With the rapid increase in coal fired power plants worldwide, I think there is a huge business opportunity in algae-based flue gas remediation/biofuel production.

    2. Joelle, you are correct. The Femtobeam LLC process of closed loop photobioreactos to produce toxin free alga biomass paste under aerated conditions has a high growth rate to handle flow rates of flue gas. In conjuction with our air and water scrubbers we can also eliminate toxins, while producing a biofuel coproduct.
