Sustainable Power chairman John Rivera resigns; former Biofuels Digest Personality of the Year
In Texas, Sustainable Power chairman John Rivera unexpectedly resigned from the company, and CEO Richard Cutler was appointed in his place. Rivera, the founder and former CEO of the company, said “Now that third party validation is underway by a world-renowned university, it is time for me and the company to focus on what is of paramount importance — the ultimate commercialization of the SSTP process. My decision to resign from the Board is so that the Company can focus on the task at hand of commercialization of the process and to avoid any outside distractions.”
Rivera is the inventor of the Rivera Process, and was one of the popularizers of the term “biocrude” as well as an early proponent of drop in fuels. The SSTP demonstration of biocrude ignition from algae biomass in January 2008 is believed to be one of the first test burns of an algal drop-in fuel. Rivera was voted Biofuels Personality of the Year in December 2007 by the readers of Biofuels Digest.
Sustainable Power has subsequently transformed into an international green energy total service provider focused on environmentally safe power generation. The company has the exclusive rights in the United States to develop and manage a portfolio of green energy plants utilizing a renewable fuel source able to be produced from non-food feed stock.
