Saskatchewan canola biodiesel plant to open July 23

In Canada, Saskatchewan-based Miligan Bio-Tech will debut its crushing plant and 2 Mgy biodiesel processing facility on July 23. The plant will be the first Canadian biodiesel producer using canola as a feedstock. Milligan, based in Foam Lake, develops non-food uses for distressed oil seed crops, in conjunction with Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, and the University of Saskatchewan.

The company said that its biodiesel will have a pour point of -15 degrees Celsius.

    1. Although the Bifrost Bio-Blends plant in Arborg uses canola, it seems to have moved away from its plan to use a variety of offgrade materials. It is unfortunate how so many prospective biodiesel facilities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan have failed to get off the ground, except for Milligan, and its long-running success in Foam Lake.
Biodiesel is great for farmers in almost every way — environmentally, economically and even mechanically — yet too many rural residents are reluctant to even consider its potential.
