Raleigh to collect residential cooking grease for biodiesel

In North Carolina, the city council of Raleigh voted to approve a program in which cooking oil will be collected from residential areas. Triangle Biofuels will pay 25 cents per gallon to the city for each gallon collected, and will convert the greases to biodiesel. Collection will be conducted by the city Solid Waste Services Department, and will be picked up from curbside on the trash collection service days. Residents must place at least one-half gallon for pick up. The program’s goal is to keep waste greases out of the city’s sewer system.
