Nine Oregon counties to convert to B2 biodiesel August 1

In Oregon, nine counties are preparing for a B2 biodiesel conversion, saying that the energy difference between B2 and standard diesel was negligible and that there were measurable environmental and local economic development benefits from using Oregon-made fuels.

The change impacts Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, Yamhill, Polk, and Marion counties as of August first, and the remainder of the state follows on October 1. The city of Portland converted to a B2 blend in August 2007. Exceptions to the biodiesel blend mandate include rail, marine, and home heating oil applications. The increase in Oregon’s biodiesel production to 5 Mgy triggered the provision in Oregon’s renewable energy standard.
