In Iowa, Gulf Alternative Energy Corporation announced that it has signed an LOI to purchase the 6 Mgy Blairstown ethanol plant owned by Xethanol Biofuels. GAEC said that it will use its cellulosic feedstock pre-processing technology to convert the Blairstown plant into a cellulosic ethanol plant, using corn stalks, corn cobs, switchgrass and agricultural waste products.GAEC said it expects to close the transaction in the fall.
