POET completes corn cob harvesting trial; plans to expand to 25,000 acres in fall as cellulosic ethanol prep continues

In South Dakota, POET announced that it successfully completed its first corn cob collection season, and in a 16-day trial of new cob harvesting technology. The company said that it expects to harvest up to 25,000 acres for cobs in Texas, South Dakota and Iowa this fall.

Corn cobs are used by POET at its pilot cellulosic plant in Scotland (S.D.), and will be utilized as feedstock at the company’s 25 Mgy Project LIBERTY cellulosic ethanol plant in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Project Liberty opens in 2011.
