Reps Crowley, Mack introduce Affordable Food and Fuel for America Act to wind down ethanol tax credits
In Washington, Representatives Joseph Crowley, D-NY, and Mary Bono Mack, R-CA introduced the HR-3187 Affordable Food and Fuel for America Act, designed to phase out government tax credits for corn ethanol over a five-year period. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association issued a statement commending the sponsors of the legislation, noting that the corn ethanol industry had received government support for thirty years. According to the USDA Economic Research Service, feed for livestock, poultry and dairy reached cost $45.2 billion in 2008, an increase of more than 15 percent over 2007 prices, despite flat sales.
